miHoYo's three big games: Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero, beside a question mark hinting at their next projects.

What Is the New HoYoverse Game? The 4 Incoming Games We Know About

|Adrian Pilanga

miHoYo's Current Roster

The biggest games in miHoYo's current roster: Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero have been holding up the company's reputation for quite some time now. But they're not the only games that miHoYo has developed throughout the years.

Before we dive into their upcoming releases, here's a list of all the games developed and published by miHoYo - the studio most players outside mainland China know by its international publishing name, HoYoverse:

FlyMe2theMoon (2011) - A simple 2D spaceflight puzzle game featuring Kiana Kaslana. It's considered to be the first game in the Honkai series.

Zombiegal Kawaii (2012) - A 2D side-scrolling zombie shooter game that once again features Kiana. It's the first time we see Kiana using guns, but unfortunately, the game doesn't really have much in terms of story.

Guns Girl Z/Houkai Gakuen 2 (2014) - This is a direct sequel to Zombiegal Kawaii and uses the same base mechanics as the former game.  It improves upon the previous game with better controls, more playable characters and content in general, and by adding a story. Gun Girl Z is also miHoYo's very first gacha game!

Honkai Impact 3rd key art - three characters on marble stairs under a starry sky

Honkai Impact 3rd (2016) - This is HoYoverse's first big game and their first venture into the action RPG genre. Though its combat is simpler than their newer games, you can clearly see the DNA of those games in Honkai Impact 3rd.

Tears of Themis (2020) - A detective visual novel-type game that is surprisingly different from anything else miHoYo has so far. Though it does still utilize gacha in the form of card collection for a card battle mode when settling debates in the story.

Genshin Impact (2020) - This open-world action RPG is miHoYo's most popular game and biggest success to date. You play as a mysterious Traveller who has come from a different world, looking for their lost sibling. Genshin has received tons of updates and is still going strong with more characters, plot points, and adventures in every version.

Honkai: Star Rail (2023) - miHoYo's return to the Honkai series comes in the form of a turn-based RPG. You play as a character known as the Trailblazer, who travels across the universe on a train called the Astral Express. Similar to Genshin, Star Rail is still getting consistent updates, and even has a collaboration event with Zenless Zone Zero planned.

Zenless Zone Zero (2024) - An action RPG game set in a post-apocalyptic urban fantasy world where you play as one of two siblings who help adventurers traverse the Hollows. Zenless Zone Zero is miHoYo's newest game and is widely known for its incredibly smooth animations and gorgeous character designs.

What is miHoYo Working on Next?

Regardless of the success of their previous games (or maybe because of it), fans have still been asking: "What is miHoYo's next game?" - or, put another way, what is the new HoYoverse game? It's time for some new contenders to step in. And luckily for miHoYo fans, the company officially has not one, not two, but four upcoming games!

Honkai: Nexus Anima

Genre: Creature-Collector, RPG

Release Date: TBA

Watch the Honkai: Nexus Anima Trailer Here

With the popularity of games like Pokémon and Palworld, HoYoverse has decided to enter the scene with Honkai: Nexus Anima. Similar to those games, this has you going around the world to collect and forge bonds with these colorful and powerful creatures known as Anima.

Honkai: Nexus Anima will be the fourth Honkai game and will feature the return of its star character, Kiana, who will be a 4-star character in the game.

The battle system itself is pretty different from Pokémon or Palworld. In Nexus Anima, you place a team of Anima on a board, and they face off against your opponent's team in real time instead of taking turns. You can affect the battle by using the abilities of your Eidos, which are basically human characters that buff your Anima and provide other useful effects.

How Does Honkai: Nexus Anima's Gacha System Work?

You might be wondering how miHoYo is planning to add a gacha system to a creature-collector game. Well, there will be two kinds of banners, with the main ones being for your Eidos.

These banners will offer 4 and 5-star Eidos, each with their own element and stats, similar to other miHoYo gacha games, with the 5-star Eidos offering significantly stronger effects and abilities for your Anima teams.

The second kind of banner will allow you to pull for Anima, which are the pets you use for battling. Though, keep in mind that many of the Anima, including the 5-star Anima, can be obtained in the overworld through exploration, quests, events, or progression rewards.

So, the Anima banners will likely be best used for any future 5-star limited Anima or one of your favorite Anima that you're struggling to get duplicates of.

Nodus Fall

Genre: Co-op, Action

Release Date: TBA

Watch the Nodus Fall Trailer Here

Visually speaking, Nodus Fall is easily HoYoverse's biggest departure from their list of games. The game looks more like a FromSoftware Soulslike game more than anything, and judging from what gameplay we've seen, they really are taking a lot of influence from games like Dark Souls.

The gameplay also features multiplayer co-op against giant boss monsters, which feels similar to something like the Monster Hunter games.

All in all, this game feels like a breath of fresh air from all the anime-style games miHoYo's produced and is still producing. It should be interesting to see how well it plays once it's out.

How Does Nodus Fall's Gacha System Work?

Surprisingly, miHoYo has announced that Nodus Fall's character will not be obtained through gacha and will instead be obtained for free through gameplay.

However, the devs have stated that they're still considering cosmetic monetization, so there might still be a gacha system for skins and accessories, sort of like how Where Winds Meets did their gacha system.

Petit Planet

Genre: Life Simulation

Release Date: Winter 2026

Watch the Petit Planet Trailer Here

It's really great to see HoYoverse branching out to different game genres, and this time it's the life simulation genre's turn.

Petit Planet is a cozy little game where you design and develop your own planetoid, which itself travels around galaxies. If you're looking for a comparison, think Animal Crossing and Pokémon Pokopia.

You can interact with other characters and events on your planetoid to unlock new cosmetics, structures, and neighbors to make your planetoid feel more full and lived in.

How Does Petit Planet's Gacha System Work?

As of right now, it is unknown how Petit Planet's gacha system will be implemented, or if there will even be one at all.

miHoYo hasn't officially said that there won't be gacha, like with Nodus Fall. Though, it should be noted that the Petit Planet betas didn't have a gacha system in place.

People suspect that the gacha will be for pulling neighbors or cosmetic customization options. But for now, that's all just speculation.

Varsapura

Genre: Open-World, RPG

Release Date: TBA

Watch the Varsapura Trailer Here

Having all these new games from different genres is nice and all, but if you came here looking for the next miHoYo flagship game that's at least somewhat similar to its current big three (Genshin, Star Rail, & Zenless), then Varsapura is what you're looking for.

The game is set in the city of Varsapura, where you play as a character known as the Hollowone, who joins an organization known as the Supernatural Enforcement and Administration League (SEAL). The plot of Varsapura seems to revolve around you and SEAL dealing with various supernatural phenomena throughout the city.

Varsapura will feature both combat and stealth gameplay, though we'll have to wait and see how in-depth either system is.

The game's visuals are a stark contrast to other mainline miHoYo games in that it leans towards more realistic graphics for the environments, though the characters definitely still have that anime-style look to them.

How Will Varsapura's Gacha System Work?

Similar to Petit Planet, miHoYo has neither confirmed nor denied whether or not Varsapura will be using a gacha system.

But judging by how the game looks and plays, with you fighting, exploring, and sneaking around with a team of characters that have their own fighting styles, it is very likely that Varsapura will have a gacha system for pulling characters and equipment, just like their mainline games.
